Hello, it’s me, Larita (Rita) Hawkins. I’ve resided in Freeport, IL most of my life. I’ve been writing Stephenson County Spotlight for almost 5 years now.
People really like good news. Last month I didn’t expect to get so many positive reactions to two totally true snow shoveling help stories I reported on my Facebook timeline and a Facebook group for mindfulness and mental wellness, Good For Me. I kept getting a flood of notifications. If you like good news, read on!
Snow story #1
A handyman who does work at a house across the street offered to help me with my driveway. I took him up on it.
Then it snowed again.
Snow story #2
An energetic 9-year-old neighbor boy helped me shovel the walks and my driveway after another snow storm. He said that he didn’t want anything and was doing it out of the kindness of his heart.
Just a reminder that it is a kindness to allow someone to help you. I’m glad that I know people who get a good feeling from helping others.
Light coming through
I’m an artist so I tend to notice (and fixate on) things that other people might not. That means I stop and stare. At one point while shoveling yet again, I decided to just go ahead and get my camera to take the photo above so I could resume looking down on the ground where the snow was.
How do you see what’s happening in the world? If you pay attention, you’ll notice that there are people doing good things for others all the time.
There is a lot of good news out there if you know where to look. MSN.com has a “Good News” section and there is a web site dedicated to it, Good News Network
