I didn’t write a post in February. I’ve been busier than normal. For one thing, I’ve been decluttering and downsizing the amount of unsold Rita’s Resales and Rita’s Really Great Stuff inventory in addition to unwanted personal belongings at my house; good stuff that other people could use. I had a giveaway at my house last Saturday. I advertised it on several local Facebook groups and passersby also stopped. There was also food, most of which was taken.
I make hats, scarves and blankets throughout the year. I donated many hats and scarves to the Voices domestic violence program and Norman C. Sleezer Youth Home. I also donated baby blankets and hats to Freeport Pregnancy Center. Many hats and blankets were also left on Freeport Area Church Cooperative’s (FACC) fence for passersby to take for free.
If you’d like to donate items or volunteer, you can probably find a local social service agency that needs your support here: United Way of Northwest IL
As you can see, I use a lot of yarn. If you would like to donate yarn to me–no strings attached–contact me at RitaHawk17@comcast.net. Please wait until you have ready access to it before contacting me, thanks.
So much stuff! I also gave away lots of clothes and still have some left. I’ve never encountered people who seemed to be taking more than they needed. The kids get really excited getting stuff for free. I’ll help people load up their bags since my goal is to get the stuff out of my way. Since I give it away without conditions, I don’t care what they do with it after it leaves my house.
It got up to 29 degrees on Saturday. Most of the blankets, scarves, and hats I’d made were taken. I still have a good amount of stuff left and will do another giveaway possibly next weekend if the weather is conducive.
I got many of the clothes and some of the hats and scarves from church giveaways that I’ve attended. The items are given away to whomever wants them, no restrictions on who can get what or how much. There’s plenty of stuff out there if you find out where to look. I’ve posted some of these free clothes and food resources here on Stephenson County Spotlight.
Some churches have rummages sales where volunteers strongly encourage people to take as much stuff as they want for FREE on the last day of the sale–particularly near the end of the event. I’m assuming the reason is so they don’t have to pack up a lot of stuff and haul it to another location.
When you’re doing your spring cleaning and decluttering, a good idea is to put stuff (in still usable or repairable condition) that you don’t want out by the curb with a FREE sign. That’ll save you a trip hauling the stuff to a second location.
You can check Rita’s Resales on Facebook to see when the next giveaway will be for sure. Rita’s Resales
