Next Monday, June 20th is the official beginning of summer. I suspect it will be one that tomatoes, watermelon and other plants that love a hot, long summer will thrive in.
I just came back in from weeding one of my garden plots. It’s still pretty toasty out there as it has been the past few days with temperatures reaching the upper 80s. You have my sympathy if your work consists of being outdoors for extended periods of time.
I prefer to grow plants from seed which is the less expensive option. I didn’t buy any new seeds this year. I had many flower seed packets left from 2012. I sprinkled a variety of flower seeds the front yard including zinnias which will result in a lot of color. The babies have started coming up.
I’ve got baby cucumber and white scallop squash plants growing in the raised bed. I saved those seeds in 2010 from overripe produce that my best friend’s mom gave me. I had a lot of them and many of the seeds have sprouted.
